Title: Analysis of Structural Systems of Various Bridge Types on Principle of Sectional Equilibrium
Abstract: On the principle of the bending and shearing equilibrium of structural element sections in the material mechanics, this paper analyzes the force characteristics of bridge cross sections and structural systems of longitudinal bridge types, and acquires an understanding of the commonly-used longitudinal structural systems, such as the arch,cable-stayed and suspension systems in a way of force bearing of girders, which are herein referred to as equivalent girders. As a consequence, the paper further classifies the common bridge types into two kinds,i.e.the structural systems designed in terms of positive bending moment, such as the simple-supported girder bridge, arch bridge and suspension bridge and the systems designed in terms of negative bending moment, such as the T-frame bridge, continuous girder bridge, continuous rigid-frame bridge and cable-stayed bridge, and finally the paper gives ideas of coping with the common deteriorations of the current long span girder type bridges by utilization of composite structural system.
