Title: Effect of Sangjing Capsule on Antioxidant Capacity and Bax and Bcl-2 Expression in Type 2 Diabetic Rats
Abstract: Objective To investigate the molecular mechanism of Sangjing Capsule (Mulberry capsule for diabetes) for type 2 diabetes. Methods The rat models of type 2 diabetes were established by intravenous injection of small dosage of streptozotocin plus high fat and high caloric diet. Then the animals were randomized into model group, metformin group and Sangjing Capsule group.A normal control group was set up for comparison. With medicinal intervention for eight weeks, the indices of antioxidant capacity including superoxide dismutase (SOD),Malondialdehyde (MDA),glutathion peroxidase (GSH-Px) and nitric oxide (NO) of all groups were examined, and the expression of Bax and Bcl-2 was tested with immunohistochemical method. Results In the model group, the antioxidant capacity and Bax and Bcl-2 expression were significantly different from those of the normal control group (P0.05 or P0.01).After medicinal intervention,in the metformin group and Sangjing Capsule group,SOD,GSH-Px,NO and expression of Bax and Bcl-2 were all significantly improved as compared with the model group (P0.05 or P0.01),and SOD as well as GSH-Px was more significantly improved in Sangjing Capsule group than in metformin group (P0.01).Conclusion The therapeutic effect of Sangjing Capsule on type 2 diabetes might be related to its ability of improving oxidative stress and inhibiting apoptosis of pancreas of rats.
