Title: Expression and clinical significance of chemokine receptor 4 and vascular endothelial growth factor in hepatocellular carcinoma
Abstract: Objective To investigate the expression of chemokine receptor 4(CXCR4) and vascular endothelial growth factor(VEGF) in hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC) and their clinical significance. Methods The expression of chemokine receptor 4 and vascular endothelial growth factor in HCC,peri-cancerous tissues and normal liver tissues were detected by immunohistochemical method.Statistical analysis was used to determine the relationship between their expressions and clinicopathological features. Results CXCR4 and VEGF were over-expressed in HCC tissues compared with those in peri-cancerous tissues and normal liver tissues(56.5%,25.0% vs 0,76.7%,40.0% vs 0,P0.05 or 0.01).The expressions of CXCR4 and VEGF in HCC accompanied by metastasis were higher than those in the primary tumor site without metastasis(85.7% vs 47.8%,100% vs 69.6%,all P0.05).There was a positive relationship between VEGF and CXCR4 expression(rs=0.901,P0.001).Conclusion CXCR4 and VEGF may play a synergistic role in the invasion and metastasis of HCC.
