Title: Effects comparison of insulin alone and combination with biguanides on type 2 diabetes
Abstract: Objective:To compare the effects of intensive insulin therapy and combination of insulin and metformin on patients with short-term type 2 diabetes. Methods:A total of 49 patients with short-term type 2 diabetes were randomly divided into intensive insulin therapy group(23 cases),and insulin combined with metformin group(26 cases).FPG,Ins,C-P,hsC-RP before and after a 75g glucose load were measured in the two groups after 2 weeks′ intensive treatment.β-cell function(HOMA-β) and insulin resistance index(HOMA-IR) were calculated with steady-state model. The above mentioned parameters and average cost of the two groups were compared. Results:After treatment,HOMA-β level of the insulin combined with metformin group increased, while HOMA-IR level decreased significantly(P both0.05),length of time for blood glucose coming back normal were shorter, dosage of insulin was smaller and cost was less compared with the insulin group(P0.05).Conclusions:Comparing with insulin alone, insulin combined with metformin can improve the effects of β-cells;reduce the insulin dosage and treatment costs.
