Title: Study on Insulin in Combination with Metfromin for Treating the Patients with Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus
Abstract: Objective: To compare the therapy effect between insulin and insulin plus metformin in treating the patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus who are controlled by insulin,Methods: 50 piatents were choosen for this study. The patients had received 40 to 50 U insulin monotherapy, hypodermically injected two to four times per day,but remained free blood glucose value of 7.0 m mol/L,2 hr post-prandial blood glucose of 10.0m mol/L,HbA1c levels of ≥7.5%,and serum creatinine levels of 132.6 μmol/L.There were insulin indication and no metfromin contraindication in all patients. Results: Prior to the treatment, there were no significant differences between the two groups in term of free blood glucose,HbA1c and insulin dose used daily. However, throughout the study, there were significant differences between both groups in term of HbA1c(P0.05),2 hr post-prandial blood glucose value and insulin dose used daily(P0.01);no significant difference of free blood glucose was observed between both groups(P0.05).Conclusion: Insulin in combination with metfromin significantly enhanced the treatment effect for the patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus controlled by high dose of insulin;reduced HbA1c levels 1.1% more than that caused by insulin alone, and lessened 30% of insulin need.Comparing to the usage of insulin alone, maintain good glycaemic control.
