Title: Cardiopulmonary bypass in less than 7kg infants with congenital heart diseases
Abstract: Objective To summarize the experience of the cardiopulmonary bypass(CPB) management in less than 7kg infants with congenital heart diseases(CHD).Methods One hundred infants in 1ess than 7kg undergoing CHD operations were retrospectively analyzed from January 2003 to May 2005 in our hospital. Results Among these patients:deep hypothermia circulatory arrest 9 cases, deep hypothermia low f1ow 19 cases, mild hypothermia or higher hypothermia high flow 72 cases.Fifty-seven infants were used for conventional ultrafi ltration(CUF) plus modified ultrafiltration(MUF).Ninety-one cases survived and 9 cases died. The mortalityrate was 9%.There were no severe related complications to the CPB.Conclusion Minimizing the primed volume in infant CPB,providing good myocardial protection and adequate infusion, maintaining reasonable HCT,crystalloid and colloid ration, and using ultrafiltration are very important to enhance the success rate of operation.
