Title: A New Interpretation of the Yuefu Poems Titled Xing (行)
Abstract: Beginning from early Tang, generations of scholars have offered various interpretations of Yuefu poems titled Xing, with no convincing and conclusive results. One reason for this is their failure to comprehensive the very meaning of the word Xing(行) as a category of poems. This paper articulates a new interpretation on the basis of an etymological examination,i.e.,in ancient Chinese,Xing is the same as Yong(永),which is used interchangeably with Yong(咏),meaning singing. So Xing actually means singing .The conclusion has been verified by poems in the Yuefu Collection of Poems not categorized as Yong.
