Title: Attempting to Poems with Buddhist Overtones ——Focusing on JIAO Ran's "Perfectly Natural Beauty"
Abstract: JIAO Ran was a poetry critic in the Tang Dynasty.Deeply steeped in the Daoist,Buddhist and Confucian traditions,he was considered a very important poet, often anthologized, and his complete works were collected on the Emperor's orders. He wrote significant literary criticism, and was an important influence on the Ancient-Style Prose Movement of his time. This paper attempts to focus on his Zhi li er ziran(the most beautiful thing is natural) to discuss one of the Chinese poetry theories, that is to say,Zhongdao theory(the Middle Path, originated from the Buddhist Thought).Perhaps, the most successful Chinese Buddhist poet to resolve this paradox was Jiao Ran who proposed treatment of poetry as an intellectual instrument of Buddhist practice.
