Abstract: Objective To discuss the effect and safety of Paroxetine and Clomipramine on obsessive compulsive disorder. Methods 70 cases of inpatients and outpatients with obsessive compulsive disorder were selected, and were randomly divided into Paroxetine group and Clomipramine group. The patients of Paroxetine group were given the initial dose of 20 mg/d with Paroxetine, it can be added to 40 mg/d according to the patient's condition after one week, the maximum dose was 60 mg/d. The patients of Clomipramine group were given the initial dose of 50 mg/d with Clomipramine, it can be added to 100 mg/d according to the patient's condition after one week, the maximum dose was 200 mg/d(morning and evening taken twice). All patients were treated for 12 weeks. The clinical curative effect and adverse reactions of patients in two groups before and after medical treatment were observed and compared. Results After 12 weeks, the final therapeutic effect in Paroxetine group(86.11%) was much similar with that in Clomipramine group(79.41%), there was no significant difference between two groups(χ2=0.55, P 0.05). The side effects in Paroxetine group(25.00%) was much lower than that in Clomipramine group(52.94%)(χ2=5.76, P 0.05). Conclusion Both Paroxetine and Clomipramine have reliable and good effect on obsessive compulsive disorder. Their effect is not different. Paroxetine has less side effects, better safety and be easily accepted by patients.
