Title: FREE RADICALS SCAVENGING EFFECTS OF Deinococcus radiodurans PREVENTS OXIDATIVE DAMAGE TO DNA
Abstract: Scavenging effects of Deinococcus radiodurans R1,KD8301 and Escherichia coli against O - 2·,H 2O 2 and ·OH were investigated with chemiluminescence method. Hydroxyl radical mediated DNA damage chemiluminiscence system was used to determined whether the extracts from Deinococcus radiodurans had protective effect on free radical induced oxidative damage to DNA.The extract from Deinococcus radiodurans showed higher activities in all experiments than extract from Escherichia coli, suggesting that it had stronger antioxidant activities and radioresistance. It is indicated that the strong scavenging effects on free radical and protective effects on DNA of Deinococcus radiodurans are resulted from its higher activities of antioxidant enzymes.
