Title: Effect of continuous positive airway pressure on characteristics of polysomnography of obstructive sleep apnea-hypopnea syndrome
Abstract: Objective:To explore how continuous positive airway pressure(CPAP)affects characteristics of polysomnography(PSG)of patients with obstructive sleep apnea-hypopnea syndrome(OSAHS)and after the pressure titration was made by Auto-continuous positive airway pressure(Auto-CPAP).Methods:A computer-assistant diagnostic system was used for polysomnography(PSG)recording. The characteristics of PSG between 70 non-OSAHS patients(control group)and 78 OSAHS patients were analyzed.40 OSAHS patients accepted CPAP therapy after auto-CPAP pressure titration was finished, and were abserved the change of the parameter of the PSG both before and during CPAP treatment. Results:Compared with controls,OSAHS group had a significant difference in sleep structure, respiratory events, arterial oxygen saturation(SaO2)and the other parameters changes of characteristics of the PSG(P0.05),which were manifested as less NREM Ⅲ+Ⅳ,more NREM Ⅰ+Ⅱ,less REM sleep, increased number of WASO(wake after sleep onset),shortened sleep latency(SL),more apnea-hypopnea index(AHI),decrease of nighttime mean SaO2(M SaO2)and the lowest SaO2(LSaO2)and increased the cumulated time of less than 90% SaO2 over total sleep time(90%T).After the pressure titration was made by Auto-CPAP,all the parameters mentioned above were different degree improved by CPAP treatment(P0.05).Conclusions:OSAHS patients have the characteristics of the PSG in sleep structure disorders, respiratory disorder and hypoxemia.CPAP therapy can improve the characteristics of the PSG of patients with OSAHS in short-term after the pressure titration was made by Auto-CPAP,it is a safe,non-invasive,brief and effective method to treat OSAHS.
