Abstract:The aerodynamic characteristics of a symmetrical airfoil NACA0012 near the free surface were experimentally studied in a low speed wind tunnel and a wind-wave flume.The experiment was carried out with...The aerodynamic characteristics of a symmetrical airfoil NACA0012 near the free surface were experimentally studied in a low speed wind tunnel and a wind-wave flume.The experiment was carried out with different angles of attack and altitudes.This experiment aimed on a basic study of wing in ground(WIG).Form the pressure distribution over the airfoil surface,some conclusions can be drawn.When the altitude of the airfoil is reduced,the stagnation point moves rearward along the lower surface,that means moves in trailing edge direction.With the angle of attack increase,the high pressure region extends toward the trailing edge.It gets higher lift-drag ratio when the angle of attack within the range of 3°to5°.However,when the altitude near h/c=0.15,the WIG makes the lift-drag ratio dropping down.The experimental results responded the real situation when the airfoil near free surface,and are useful for explaining and understanding the aerodynamics influenced by the WIG effect.Read More
