Title: Long-term toxicity studies of 13-methyltetradecanoic acid in rats
Abstract: Objective:To monitor any long-term toxicity reactions of 13-methyltetradecanoic acid(13-MTD) to rats, and evaluate the safety of 13-MTD. Methods:80 SD rats were randomly divided into 4 groups:0.75,1.50,3.00 g/kg test groups and blank control group, with 20 rats in each group. The rats in three test groups were orally administered with 13-MTD for 12 weeks, then the blood routine, hepatorenal functions, major organ indexes and pathological biopsy were observed. Results:Except the relatively lower weight growth rate and less appetite in the highest dosage group,no significant abnormality of general condition, blood routine, hepatorenal functions, major organ indexes and pathological biopsy in other dose groups was observed. Conclusion:Oral administration of 13-MTD for 3.00 g/kg(150 times clinically recommended dose) daily for 12 weeks in rats is safe and has no obvious toxicity.
