Abstract: Au cours de la periode des six dynasties (221-589), il y eut une serie de debats entre les intellectuels bouddhistes et non bouddhistes sur la question de l'immortalite de l'âme. L'analogie de la lumiere etait souvent employee pour prouver ou desapprouver l'existence d'une âme immortelle dans les debats du Moyen Age. L'utilisation de cette analogie dans la tradition chinoise avant le IV e siecle et sa transformation en discours philosophique chez Huiyuan (334-416), le leader de la communaute monastique bouddhiste en Chine du sud, a ete bien etudiee sans que la question des sources soit tranchee
