Abstract: SINCE iproniazid was shown to be an effective monoamine oxidase inhibitor by Zeller et al.1 in 1952 there has been extensive use of monoamine oxidase inhibitors, particularly in psychiatric diseases,2 angina pectoris3 and hypertension.4 The usual side effects of monoamine oxidase inhibitors, such as postural hypotension, dizziness and dryness of the mouth, are well known.5 , 6 With excessive doses, marked Central-nervous-system disturbances occur.
