Title: Extreme Value Analysis of Wet Snow Loads on Power Lines
Abstract: A power transmission grid is exposed to numerous weather conditions. One of the critical hazards is icing on structural elements of the overhead high voltage lines. This paper shows the application of extreme value analysis aimed at determining wet snowfall and predicting the occurrence of extreme icing on power lines. We presented the modeling of icing on the basis of metrological measurements and compared them with direct icing measurements. The analysis of the icing size on a given territory can allow us to identify adequate measures to counteract vast power grid failures caused by extreme weather conditions.
