Title: Role of p22phox dependent NADPH oxidase in the inflammatory response to House dust mite (HDM)
Abstract: Oxidative stress has an important role in triggering inflammation. Production of reactive oxygen species (ROS) has been associated with allergic lung inflammation, lung injury and vascular remodelling. NADPH oxidase is a membrane bound enzyme complex comprised of five phagocytic oxidase subunits, including the active subunit p22phox, which is integral for ROS production. However, there is limited and controversial evidence that ROS from NADPH oxidase mediates cell signalling processes that elicit inflammatory responses. We therefore have investigated the role of this enzyme in house dust mite (HDM) model, utilizing mice deficient in the p22phox subunit of NADPH oxidase.
