Title: The/An Ethnomusicologist and the Record Business
Abstract: Recherche ethnomusicologique et exploitation commerciale sont de plus en plus interconnectees. Alors que la plupart des ethnomusicologues font des enregistrements sur le terrain, les archivent, participent a des programmes radiophoniques et, parfois, en autorisent pour partie l'exploitation par des labels commerciaux, peu d'entre eux discutent publiquement des implications ethiques et legales. L'A. se propose, non pas de contribuer au debat theorique, mais de presenter 8 cas dans lesquels il fut personnellement implique. Les huit cas sont repartis en deux groupes selon des types de relations : 1) relations (financieres) avec les artistes indigenes de trois continents dont il enregistra la musique et dont il en autorisa ensuite la diffusion commerciale ; 2) ses relations avec des collegues dans le cadre de la revision de contrat en tant qu'editeur d'enregistrements ; 3) relations avec les acteurs de l'industrie musicale, de l'edition musicale et de la television
