Title: Soil Scarab Beetles<sup>1</sup>at Santa Marta, Los Tuxtlas, Veracruz, Mexico
Abstract: Como una contribución al inventario biótico regional se presentan y comentan los resultados de los muestreos realizados en la parte baja de las vertientes internas de las montañas orientales de Los Tuxtlas, Veracruz, México, en tres localidades con cuatro usos de suelo. Durante el otoño de 2003 en 281 muestras de suelo se obtuvieron 273 ejemplares que representan 5 familias de Coleoptera Scarabaeoidea, incluyendo adultos y larvas de 26 especies, las familias con mayor riqueza específica fueron Melolonthidae (11) y Scarabaeidae (12), y la familia con mayor abundancia fue Melolonthidae (182). Se concluye que los pastizales de San Fernando tuvieron los valores más altos de abundancia y riqueza de todos los grupos, y los suelos de los bosques perennifolios presentaron menos registros de Melolonthidae. Se incluyen algunos comentarios sobre el valor de las especies de Scarabaeoidea como indicadores biológicos. Por su abundancia y biomasa Macrodactylus fulvescens Bates y Ataenius apicalis Hinton fueron, respectivamente, los coleópteros rizófagos y sapófágos más importantes en el área estudiada.
