Sociology embraced all spheres of life, and thousands of citizens were recruited as respondents. The chance to assess the value of all this is the result of an abrupt change in regime and ideology, a fundamental event in the life of any generation; it would be a crime not to seize the opportunity. To do so, some direct questions must be answered: What kind of undertaking was it that we amicably called sociology? What facets of it have and will continue to have permanent value? Did research in those years reflect "reality"? In part, our answer to these questions depends on whether we view the previous period as finished, unique, or whether we regard it as ongoing, different only in certain superficial attributes.Read More
