Title: The Reaction of Pisum Mutants to Different Climatic Conditions
Abstract: The seed production of four pea mutants under the climatic conditions of Bonn (Germany) and Bombay (India) is compared. The genes show a completely diverse reaction under moderate and tropical conditions. In Germany, the seed yield of the fasciated mutant 489G ranged from 132–192% in 6 subsequent generations compared to the initial line. In India, flowering and ripening time of this mutant is extremely delayed. In combination with high disease infection, there was no seed production. The early flowering mutant 46 shows under Bombay conditions a certain degree of tolerance to fungal and virus diseases resulting in a considerable superiority in seed production. The mutated gene 1201A shows no penetrance at all in India; hence, plants of this genotype cannot be discerned to be mutants.
