Title: Herbicial Control of Weeds in Direct-Seeded Rice (Oryza Sativa L.) under Non-Puddled Conditions and their Residual Effect on Wheat, Brassica and Linseed1
Abstract: Field investigations were carried out during 1977 and 1978 to explore the feasibility of raising direct seeded (non-puddled) crop of rice (cv. Jaya) under the agroclimatic conditions of Punjab. Pre-emergence application of avirosan (dimethametryne+piperphos in 1: 4 ratio) at 0.75 kg/ha gave the best performance. It gave 5940 and 4910 kg/ha paddy yield against 5710 and 5390 kg/ha attained under transplanted crop treated with butachlor 1.5 kg/ha pre-em. to weeds. The next best treatments were butachlor 2.0 & 2.5 kg/ha pre-em. and propanil 3 kg/ha + 3% urea spray at 2–3 leaf stage of barnyard grass that gave promising results. The performance of benthiocarb 3.0 kg (during 1978) and molinate 4.0 kg/ha was rather poor.
