Title: Effect of irrigation and herbicides on weed control and yield of durum wheat.
Abstract: The effect of irrigation (one, two and four) and herbicides which include diclofopmethyl 0.75 kg/ha alone and with 2,4–0 0.5 kg/ha, isoproturon 0.75kg/ha, weedy and weed free plots on durum wheat was investigated at CCS Haryana Agricultural University, Hisar in the winter seasons of 1994–95 and 1995–96. Increase in the amount of water from one irrigation to four irrigations increased weed population, weed dry weight, yield components and grain yield of wheat during both the seasons. Application of diclofop-methyl 0.75 kg/ha did not control Chenopodium album but controlled Avena ludoviciana and Phalarls minor. Diclofop-methyl 0.75 kg/ha followed by 2, 4–0 0.5 kg/ha was more effective in controlling the weeds as compared to tank mixture of diclofop-methyl 0.75 kg + 2,4-D 0.5 kg/ha. All the herbicides gave significantly more grain yield than the weedy check and maximum grain yield was obtained with the application of diclofop-methyl 0.75 kg/ha followed by 2, 4–0 0.5 kg/ha.
