Title: Users turning to partial contracts, simpler systems
Abstract: Energy managers are turning to simpler service and maintenance contracts for their energy-management systems (EMS), or are avoiding them by selecting simpler equipment. Some are accepting contracts that apply only to the central processing unit and developing an in-house maintenance capability to save money and shorten servicing time. Manufacturers are willing to guarantee any portion of the user's system, although they do offer standard service contracts. EMS users describe their experiences, some noting that the early populartiy of service contracts reflects the overselling of sophisticated systems. (DCK)
