Title: Study on the relationship between plasma homocysteine and coronary heart disease in elderly patients
Abstract: Objective To investigate the relationship between plasma homocysteine(HCY) and elderly coronary heart disease(CHD) and its severity. Methods To determine 30 healthy elderly peoples(control group) and 70 elderly coronary heart diseases(CHD group),CHD group were divided into 26 cases suffering from myocardial infarction(AMI),24 cases suffering from unstable angina pectoris and 20 cases suffering from stable angina pectoris. All of the objects were determined of their plasma Hcy,triglyceride(TG),total cholesterol(TC) and low density lipoprotein cholesterol(LDL-C).Results The plasma Hcy levels was significantly higher in CHD group than that in control group(P0.01).Hcy level in the UAP group was lower than that in the AMI group, but higher than in the SAP group(P0.05).Logistic-regression analysis showed that Hcy had no significant correlation with TC,TG and LDL-C in CHD group(P0.05).Conclusion Plasma level of Hcy is an independent risk factor for the occurrence of coronary heart disease, and closely related to the severity of the disease in elderly patients.
