Title: Distraction Versus Orthognathic Surgery for Cleft Lip and Palate
Abstract: Statement of the Problem: Distraction osteogenesis, the process of generating new bone through gradual traction between two surgically separated segments fixed to a mechanical device, has opened new perspective for the treatment of various skeletal anomalies, particularly for the cleft lip and palate patients. The aim of the study is to compare the outcomes of distraction osteogenesis (DO) and conventional orthognathic surgery (CO) in terms of clinical morbidities, skeletal and dental relapse, soft tissue changes, velopharyngeal function changes, speech outcome and psychological changes.
