Title: THE INTERMAXILLARY ELASTIC TRACTION AFTER ORTHOGNATHIC SURGERY
Abstract: Objective: To discuss the management of the patients with various maxilla or/and mandibular deformities after orthognathic surgery with Class Ⅰ,Ⅱ and Ⅲ elastic traction and its importance. Materials and Methods: 24 cases with various maxillofacial deformities were treated with Class Ⅰ, Ⅱ or Ⅲ intermaxillary elastic traction after the orthognathic surgery. Results:3~6 months after orthognatic operetions, all of the cases treated with postopoeration Class Ⅰ, Ⅱ or Ⅲ intermaxillary elastic traction have a steady surgery effect. The managements to the patients are benefit to establish their steady occlusion relations. Conclusion: For those patients who have maxillofacial deformities, the reconstruction of oromaxillary function and myofunction are not concurrent with that of the deformity. This may bring about the recurrence of the deformity. The postoperation intermaxillary elastic traction is helpful to reconstruct the myofunction, establish the functional balance and obtain both of good appearance and oromaxillary function.
