Title: Coronary Artery Disease Risk Factor Profile in Hypertensive Patients
Abstract: Several researches along with Framingham heart study have resulted in abundance of epidemiologi- cal information confirming what astute clinicians have known for many years, that specific factors appear to be associated with increased risk for the development of coronary heart disease. The objective of this study is to look into the coronary artery disease risk profiles in hypertensive patients. 98 hypertensive patients (50 females & 48 males) were investigated for assessing risk factors for coronary artery disease (CAD). Blood sugar, total cholesterol, serum HDL cholesterol levels and serum lipid profile were esti- mated. Percentage of 10-year coronary artery disease risk was calculated using coronary disease risk pre- diction score of Framingham study. CAD risk score > 20% was seen in majority of the patients (74.08%) and > 40% in 20.4% of the patients. 26.53% had clinical or electrocardiographic evidence of CAD. It was observed that increasing age, decrease in serum HDL, increasing serum total cholesterol, smoking & diabetes mellitus were responsible for increased risk for coronary artery disease in hypertensive patients.
