A review of the literature shows reports of 152 cervical parathyroid cysts (1-4). Unless the patient has hyperparathyroidism, a cervical mass is usually asymptomatic, is considered to be of thyroid origin, and occasionally is treated with thyroid hormones (3, 5). To avoid both unnecessary therapy and the hyperparathyroidism that parathyroid cysts can produce (2-5), an early diagnosis is advisable. Ginsgerg and colleagues (6) have reported the cases of 2 patients with cystic neck masses whose cysts were suggested to be of parathyroid origin by high parathyroid hormone concentrations in fluid samples collected by...References1.
