Abstract: ABSTRACT The award-winning Nobody Knows (Dare mo shiranai, 2004), by Japanese director Hirokazu Kore-eda, is reviewed, with ref-erence to theories of trauma and to other films featuring child pro-tagonists. Nobody Knows is based on a true story of four half-siblings who must fend for themselves in a small apartment in Tokyo when their mother deserts them.
