Abstract: Abstract: The stylistic development of Wang Yani, a 17‐year‐old Chinese painting prodigy, is discussed in this article. Yani's work can be divided into two major periods. Her early works focus on an exploration of monkeys, and can be characterized by a striking psychological immediacy, as well as an extraordinary technical mastery of the medium of brush and ink In the second period, her compositions take on a greater formality as Yani explores more of the technical and compositional characteristics of the medium.
