Title: An evaluation of the local anesthetic, mepivacaine hydrochloride, in operative dentistry
Abstract: The purpose of this study was to compare a new local anesthetic with anesthetic solutions in routine use in the operative dentistry clinic at the School of Dentistry, University of Washington. Three local anesthetic solutions—the one under test containing mepivacaine hydrochloride 2 per cent with levonordefrin 1:20,000, and the two controls consisting of lidocaine hydrochloride 2 per cent with epinephrine 1:50,000, and a mixture of procaine hydrochloride 2 per cent, tetracaine hydrochloride 0.15 per cent with levonordefrin 1:20,000—were compared under blind test conditions on 751 patients.
