Title: A non-reflecting boundary for analyzing wave propagation using the finite element method
Abstract: A finite element approach for the analysis of the wave propagation in an infinitely long plate is presented in this paper. The method of achieving a non-reflecting boundary condition such that there will be no spurious reflections generated by the finite boundary of the finite element model will be introduced. The method is used to study the steady-state wave propagation characteristics across a plate structure with and without flaws. The proposed method compared very well with the strip element method, which is a semi-exact method for wave propagation analysis.
