Title: Fresh market tomato yields as affected by deficit irrigation using a micro-irrigation system
Abstract: Abstract Yield response of fresh market tomatoes (Lycopersicon esculentum Mill) to different micro-irrigation amounts and timing was determined in 1970, 1971 and 1972. Total tomato yield increased linearly with increasing water application up to 467 mm where yield was 99 t/ha. The relationship between deficit relative yield (yield divided by maximum yield) and deficit relative evapotranspiration (evapotranspiration divided by maximum evapotranspiration) is similar to that reported for processing tomatoes as long as total tomato yield, regardless of grade, is used in the relationship. The marketable yield percentage decreased under moisture stress conditions, and was only 3% for the dryland plots receiving 93 mm of rainfall, plus irrigation for establishment Daily yield from tomato plants and water-use-efficiency peaked 20 to 30 days after harvest began and again near the end of the growing season.
