Title: Feasibility study for optimal cropping pattern for available water in the distributary of an irrigation system
Abstract: Irrigation has expanded so tremendously in India and it has been the largest area under irrigation anywhere in the world. However much attention has not been given towards operation and maintenance of the system for distribution of water, as a result, delivery of water to the farmers has become unreliable in timing. The neglect of the ’main system management’ has led to its continued deterioration. To make water management efficient, the management of irrigation systems needs to be restructured. However, the increasing demand for water in all sectors, including irrigation, makes it imperative for the efficiency of irrigation water management to be substantially increased. This study aims, to suggest suitable cropping pattern which is agreed upon by both irrigation department and farmers community of the command area with the constraints of available water, soil condition, climate, labor availability, machines etc.
