Title: On molybdenum and tungsten dioxides and dioxydichlorides
Abstract: A simple method for the laboratory preparation of molybdenum and tungsten (IV) oxides is described. The reaction is carried out by reduction of molybdenum (VI) and tungsten (VI) oxides with gaseous ammonia. Dioxydichlorides of molybdenum and tungsten are obtained by partial chlorination of their (VI) oxides with carbon tetrachloride vapour in an atmosphere of oxygen. Temperatures for the oxidation of molybdenum (IV) and tungsten (IV) oxides are determined by means of differential thermal analysis.
