Title: Bacillus acidoterrestris sp. nov., a New Thermotolerant Acidophile Isolated from Different Soils
Abstract: Thirteen Bacillus strains containing ω-cyclohexane fatty acids isolated from different soils and from apple juice represent a new thermotolerant, acidophilic species named Bacillus acidoterrestris sp. nov. Obligate acidophily and their fatty acid profile distinguish the strains from Bacillus coagulans which is acidotolerant and possesses branched-chain fatty acids. The strains differ from Bacillus acidocaldarius in their lower optimal growth temperature of 42 to 53 °C (depending on the strain), in the results of the API 50 CH test-system, a G+C content of DNA of 51.0 to 53.1 mol%, and a very low DNA-DNA homology.
