Title: How will the enlargement affect the old members of the European Union?
Abstract: The recent enlargement of the European Union by ten countries has changed the framework for economic activities in Europe. This article sheds some light on the resulting macro effects on the old member states and discusses the distribution effects both between the incumbent countries and within these countries as well as the respective adjustment requirements. In conclusion a rough assessment is made of the future growth performance of the enlarged EU.
