Title: Accelerated Construction for a Medium-Span Bridge in Thailand with the Precast Segmental Approach
Abstract: It is well realized that difficulties in quality control of casting concrete on site and incapability of delivery of long precast girders are the principal problems of medium-scale bridge construction in a far rural area. To get rid of these impedances, the precast segmental approach was adopted to construct a bridge with 20-meter span length in Sakhonnakorn Province, Thailand. Not only girders, but also piers and cap beams were separated into segments. Each segment was manufactured in a well quality-controlled casting yard and transported to construction site by trucks so that they would be assembled and installed. This paper will describe construction procedure with the precast segmental approach. It can be found, from the construction, that the precast segmental technique can reduce the construction period significantly. Moreover, the quality of construction was provided well.
