Abstract: Using data from the 2000 U.S. census, the first part of this article shows how local log odds are used to measure three forms of marriage matching patterns: ethnic endogamy, positive assortative matching by educational attainment, and social exchange between educational attainment and ethnicity. Using the Choo–Siow marriage matching model, the second part of the article provides a behavioral interpretation of using local log odds to measure marriage matching patterns.
