vegetation around and into the lake and consequently a change in the
formation of the shoreline. The lake appears to have been increasingly filled
up by reed and floating leaf plants which points to an eutrophication process.
In this report aerial photographs are compared from a period of 70 years up
until today to discover if the lake truly has been filled up.
In the end of the 18th century the water level of Ivosjon sank by approximately
the length of a man and lost about 15percent of its water volume. To find out
what the lake looked like before the lowering of the lake the skanish
reconnaissance map, which was drawn in 1812-1820, was used.
A comparison of Ivosjon throughout time was made possible by interpreting
and digitizing aerial photographs and the reconnaissance map.
The shoreline of Ivosjon has changed during the investigated period and the
lake has decreased in size. A change in particular can be noticed in four
places; Axeltorpsviken, the entry of Holjean, the area around Gualov and by
the harbour of Bromolla. These areas coincide with the basic areas of the lake.
To find out the reason for this change another study has been conducted of the
use of land in the adjoining fields, as the exploitation of the surrounding land
areas are reflected in the nutritional status of the lake. It is revealed that the
quantity of deciduous forest, arable land and the area of the lake have
decreased benefiting reed, settlement, paved areas, coniferous forest and open
spaces.
It is obvious that the human use of the land has a negative affect on the lake
owing to increased nutritional load. To prevent the fast overgrowth of Ivosjon,
a proposition of establishing edge zones around inflowing watercourses and a
protection zone around the lake has been made.Read More
