Title: The Construct Validity of the Esophageal Symptom Questionnaire Dysphagia Subscale (Esq-D) Based on the Esophageal Dysmotility Diagnosis by High Resolution Manometry (HRM)
Abstract: There is few studies assessing the prevalence of non cardiac chest pain in a Spanish population and risk factors for suffering NCCP has been evaluated in just one community study.Aim.To evaluate the prevalence and risk factors associated with non cardiac chest pain in a Spanish population Methods.A sample of 3,000 persons were contacted by phone.Sample was stratified by age gender and province of reference an selected randomly by phone.A phone interview were completed by trained interviewers including information regarding the presence and clinical characteristics of chest pain, symptoms of GERD, demographics variables, and anxiety and depression, using validated questionnaires (GERQ, Rose questionnaire, HAD).Non cardiac chest pain was defined as chest pain in the last year of any frequency or severity, deemed not to be cardiac by a physician.A logistic regresiion model was done to evaluate potential factors associated with suffering non cardiac chest pain, including as independent variables age, gender, body mass index, GERD symptoms and anxiety and depression scores.Results.370 persons reported chest pain; 58 cases were classified as cardiac. Thus, 312 persons reported NCCP (prevalence 10.4% (95%CI: 9.3-11.5%).Risk factors for suffering non cardiac chest pain are shown in the table.Conclusion.Prevalence of NCCP in a Spanish population is 10.4%.Main risk factors for suffering it are GERD and anxiety.*adjusted by all variables in the table; +p<0.0001;++p<0.05
