Abstract: Discourse Analysis (DA) and Critical Discourse Analysis (CDA) have attracted great attention in various academic disciplinary due to their interdisciplinary nature and focus on the relationship between texts and its social context. DA and CDA are very inter-related conceptually and methodologically as both deal with common issues and topics and use the same linguistic concepts in describing and explaining discourses. This chapter presents an overview of CDA. It attempts to answer the questions: What is Critical Discourse Analysis? How is CDA viewed by different scholars? It also discusses fundamental concepts in CDA such as discourse, power, social practice.
