Title: TRAFFIC MANAGEMENT DURING THE EXPANSION OF DETROIT'S COBO CENTER
Abstract: The article describes the complex project of expanding the Cobo Center, Detroit, the issues and problems complicating the construction, and the traffic management that it entailed. The analysis of freeway alternatives is described, and the recommendations made are summarized. Project planning and coordination are described. One of the major concerns during the construction period was continued direct access to parking facilities. The interim roadway system for access to Cobo Center is also described. The importance of flexibility, open communications and appreciation of problems faced by various disciplines in a project of this complexity are noted. The traffic management plan was updated continually to reflect all of the major changes.
