Title: Effect of growth adjuvants on in-vitro seed germination of Phalaenopsis hybrid
Abstract: The seeds obtained from the capsules of Phalaenopsis hybrid by crossing Phalaenopsis “Jane Mc Henry” and Phalaenopsis” Abrae” were inoculated into Murashige and Skoog medium supplemented with various adjuvants, viz. coconut water (100, 150 and 200 ml/1), casein hydrolysate (100, 150 and 200 mg/1), charcoal (1 and 2 g/1), adenine (1 mM) and ascorbic acid (1 mM). The medium supplemented with adenine (1 mM) and ascorbic acid (1 mM) showed early germination, protocorm-like body formation and leaf initiation. More number of roots, accelerated root and shoot length and increased fresh weight were recorded in the medium supplemented with casein hydrolysate (100 mg/1). However, no differentiation was seen in the medium supplemented with casein hydrolysate 150 and 200 (mg/1) and charcoal (1 and 2 g/1).
