Title: COST-EFFECTIVE TRACK MAINTENANCE BY MEANS OF ADVANCED MECHANISED MAINTENANCE TRAINS: EXPERIENCE GAINED ON AUSTRIAN FEDERAL RAILWAYS
Abstract: Many years of experience gained on Austrian Federal Railways (OBB) with the combined operation of levelling, lining and tamping machines, ballast profiling machines, and the dynamic track stabilizer, have led to the development of the mechanized maintenance train MDZ 2000. Comprising two machines, the 09-3X Tamping Express and the AFKM automatic track finishing machine, the MDZ 2000 achieves an outstanding economic efficiency. Some of the main advantages identified include: uniform anticipation of the initial settlements; recovery of the track's resistance to lateral displacement; avoidance of speed restrictions following maintenance work; and extension of maintenance intervals.
