Abstract: Anfang 2006 beschäftigt sich die Süddeutsche Zeitung mit der ersten deutschen gated Community, der bewachten Villen- und Appartement-Siedlung „Arcadia“ in Potsdam. Sieben Jahre nach der Gründung gebe es noch immer massiven Leerstand, heißt es in dem Artikel. Sein Fazit ist dann auch eindeutig: „Wohnen hinter Mauer und Zaun gilt hierzulande als unattraktiv“ – anders als sonst in Europa zwischen Großbritannien und Russland, anders vor allem als in den USA (SZ vom 13. Januar 2006). Und auch der seit Jahren zum Thema forschende Geograph Georg Glasze stellt damals fest: „In den deutschen Kommunalverwaltungen ist man sich wohl einig, diese Art Privateigentum bei uns nicht sehen zu wollen“ (zit. n. ebd.)
