Abstract: Neuropsychological practice and research foci in the United States have shown an evolutionary trend over the past thirty years, with special changes becoming manifest over the past decade. National surveys of practitioners and researchers, and review of employment practices and paper presentation topics suggest the shape of neuropsychology in the year 2000. By the year 2000, rehabilitation of neuropsychologically impaired individuals, and treatment of affected family members, will be much more a part of neuropsychology research and practice. Forensic emphasis will be accelerated for both diagnostic and treatment aspects of neuropsychology, and the number of practitioners involved in neuropsychology will increase dramatically.
