Title: A UML Based Modeling Approach for Multi Domain System Products
Abstract: The paper describes an approach to a UML (Unified Modeling Language) based method for modeling multi domain system products. The model is divided into two main parts. The first part is the Use Case view where the modeling effort emanates in an analysis where functional requirements of the system are elicited. The second part is the Logical View where the system is defined and presented in a number of diagrams showing system objects (subsystems and components) in a static architecture, in dynamic behavior and interfaces between them. Special techniques are used to categorize model features in different technology domains, like mechanical, electrical etc. The method also allows that other models or documentation from e.g. CAD-systems, simulation tools etc are linked to the UML based model. Through this the UML based product model may serve as a node for the technical product description. Further on, a method is described for the systematic analysis and design of multi domain system products. The starting point is the Use Case analysis. The Use Case descriptions are then analyzed and their functionality is realized in a technical system which has the ability to meet the requirements from the Use Cases. The main ingredients of the realization work are to define the interaction between system objects and identify their functional responsibilities.
