Abstract: The objective of the Renewable Energy Development Project (REDP) is to increase the supply of least-cost electricity to Vietnam's national grid from renewable energy sources on a commercially sustainable basis and in an environmentally and socially sustainable manner. Negative impacts include: air and noise pollution, traffic, dust, vegetation removal of the reservoir and construction side, loss of forest, drainage, fuel storage and handling, solid waste management, impairment water quality, and impacts on fish and aquatic biota. Mitigation measures include: i) best practice, for fuel storage areas it's to locate them at least 100 meters away from any surface water bodies, avoid villages and any population centers; ii) avoid sitting subproject in forested areas, to the extent possible. Any trees removed as a result of construction must be reestablished after construction or compensated for at some other location; iii) after construction completion, soil will be restored to original location and re-vegetated; iv) wherever possible disturbance to ground areas shall be minimized and stabilized as quickly as possible. Drainage shall be controlled and redirected to avoid disturbed areas; v) all waste oils and lubricants shall be collected and recycled wherever possible. There should be no discharge or release of fuels, oils or lubricants to soil and water; vi) construction shall take place only during daytime hours; vii) dust control measures shall be implemented on all unpaved roads and construction surfaces, in dry and windy conditions; viii) minimize additional traffic movements on existing roads; ix) avoid tree cutting or economically productive lands wherever possible; and x) waste segregation measures shall be undertaken to maximize recycling and minimize the amount of solid waste for disposal.
